If you recall in our last newsletter, my message was a “cry for help” as a number of Executive members were stepping down, combined with what appeared to be no interest from the Volvo community to take on the responsibility of running the day-to-day operations of the Canadian Volvo Club. As your Executive looked around, we had to ask ourselves – What is the future of the Canadian Volvo Club? As a non-profit organization, we had no choice but to question the need to continue our status as a federally-regulated not-for-profit corporation; hence our campaign to reach out to the Volvo community and ask for help.
Trust me, it was a very real ask and a lot hinged on what the response would be.
Well, I am happy to report that the response was outstanding. Our AGM had the highest attendance in memory and what I had hoped for happened. The Volvo community stepped up and a number of individuals made known their support for the club and a willingness to take on responsibility at the Executive level.
As a result, I am happy to welcome Matthew “Matt” Boucher as our newest elected Director (replacing Grant Clarke), Lee M. as our new Newsletter Editor, and Tim Charters as our new Membership Chair. In addition, Neville Britto has offered to take on the title of Special Events Coordinator.
In 2022 I will be stepping down as President and Brad Davies will be stepping down as Vice-President, at yet to be determined dates, after decades of service to the club for both of us. While all of this is undeniably a huge shift in the Executive, the new Executive will be represented by a younger demographic and with that, the energy and real-world connection that is needed in keeping our club relevant.
Our challenges have been many this past year. They included both a need to keep the Executive positions filled while at the same time reeling from a pandemic-imposed cancellation of our 2020 & 2021 Family Days. Our Family Days have always been a good revenue generator while at the same time doubling as a Membership Drive.
2022 will mark a new chapter in the forty plus years of the Canadian Volvo Club. Work has already begun in preparing for our 40 th Anniversary Family Day Celebration and we have already started a conversation about Family Day
